DO YOU REALLY WANT A MASSIVE INCINERATOR AT ARDLEY?
IF YOU DO NOT READ ON
On September 7th 2009 Oxfordshire County Council Cabinet selected Viridor with their site at Ardley as their preferred bidder. This has significantly increased the probability of an incinerator being built at Ardley. Oxfordshire County Council only requires the application to be passed by the Planning and Regulation Committee to make it a reality!
People Power can influence this decision.
COUNCILLORS ON THE PLANNING COMMITTEE WILL BE INFLUENCED BY PUBLIC OPINION.
PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU CONTRIBUTE BY LETTER, EMAIL, PHONE CALL OR ALL THREE.
All the contact details for the Planning Committee Councillors are found by clicking the “PLANNING COMMITTEE” page link.
Communicate to all of them individually by:-
a) Handwritten letters (most effective way to lobby)
b) Computer written letters
c) E-mails (although these are easily deleted)
d) Telephone and politely state your objection
ALL LETTERS AND LOBBYING MUST BE COMPLETED BEFORE THE PLANNING MEETING ON MONDAY 19th OCTOBER 2009.
In your letters you can just state that you object, but the more reasons you give the better. As well as your own concerns you may wish to include some of the following points:-
a) Development in open countryside.
b) Building totally out of character with the surrounding landscape.
c) Lack of comprehensive comparative site assessment.
d) This development is a departure from the development plan.
e) Approximately 100,000 tonnes of excessive capacity above Oxfordshire County Council needs.
f) No restriction on importing waste from neighbouring counties.
g) Pollution of air, soil and water.
h) Increased traffic congestion leading to air quality issues.
i) Possible long term adverse health effects.
j) The environmental conflict of the NW Bicester Eco-Development and its proximity to an incinerator.
k) Once completed it will be locked into a twenty-five year contract with no break clauses.
l) Proposed operator has no experience of incineration on this scale in the U.K.
m) More environmentally friendly alternative technology is available.
n) Light Pollution.
Cherwell District Council’s main objections.
A) The consideration of this EFW (Energy From Waste) proposal is premature pending the production of a Minerals and Waste Development Framework which will allow comprehensive comparative site assessment as required by PPS10. The District Council does not consider that the alternative site selection report, or the section of the sustainability appraisal submitted with the application, adequately undertake an analytical comparative assessment of the potentially available sites, and do not provide an adequate or sound basis to consider allowing development which is a departure from the Development Plan.
B) That the development of the EFW facility in an industrial building of the size proposed with a large chimney stack will cause harm to the character and appearance of the countryside and will be contrary to Policies G2, G5, EN1 and E1 of the Oxfordshire Structure Plan 2016, saved Policies EMP4, C7, C8 and C9 of the adopted Cherwell Local Plan and Policies EMP4, EN30, EN31 and EN34 of the Council’s Non-Statutory Cherwell Local Plan 2011.
DOING NOTHING IS NOT AN OPTION UNLESS YOU WISH TO SEE AN INCINERATOR BUILT AT ARDLEY!
